Part II: Forget Beach Babe, Be A Beach Goddess

Hair can be a great challenge to maintain on the beach, especially if you live in a hot and humid place like Singapore.

The beach should mean bohemian hairstyles, Oh-I-just-woke-up-and-my-hair-looked-this-awesome bed hair, and definitely a lot of volume - no limp hair, please!

So how do we actually get beach hair?

1.) It's all about the Waves, the Body, the Life of your tresses.

- If you have straight hair, you can either do the well-known sleeping in braids trick (braiding damp hair and leaving it on the whole night) or you can blow dry your hair the morning before heading to the beach to create volume (remember to blow dry your hair downwards to minimize frizz!).

- Apply some product that will keep your hair moisturized and protected from the sun and sea water like this.

- There are some products that promise to give you beach waves just by applying it! Look out for a post on that coming up soon here at Beach & Baileys!

- If you have naturally curly or wavy hair, the main challenge would be to tame the curls and waves, so look out for some great products like this

 2.) Braids

This is the classic braid; it's really easy once you get the hang of it. The basic steps are to take some hair, divide into three sections and then take the left-most division and put it on top of the middle and then take the right-most division and put it on top of the middle division and keep going on. There are a lot of great tutorials on YouTube like this.

The fishtail braid has gained a lot of attention the past couple of months. It's a little more tricky compared to the simple, classic braid but the look totally makes up for it! It's hard to explain how to do this braid so once again here is a YouTube video on how to create the look!

3.) Hair Accessories

This is a great look if you don't have the time to learn or do the braids! Just shop around for some cute head pieces like these; they're bohemian inspired which means free-spirited = great for the beach! You can find them in most shops now; they come in so many sizes, colours and designs!

This is another cute alternative for the beach. It's so carefree!

Finally, here is one of my favourite hair tutorials by Imogen (I love her stuff!).

Even our wildest imaginations can be incorporated into something artistic and unique. Whether keeping it simple or going beyond boundaries - whichever suits your occasion. Tired of trying different eye shadows and removing it over and over again when it does not suit you? Want to know which look suits you best?

Bring out the hidden artist in you, grab a piece of paper and some pencil colours that matches your make-up palette. There is a wide spectrum of colours on the palette to choose from, try blending various colours as well as techniques before testing it on your face. For a dazzling effect, choose colours that suit your skin tone best. But remember if you do a heavy eye make-up, your lips have to be softer in order to balance the colours and vice versa.

Here are some examples of eye make-up motifs; drawn with a black marker and colored with watercolor pencils for a better blending effect.

Go from carnival to a more settled look, whichever your mood and occasion is. Feeling fierce and wild for a party? How about the wild and sexy leopard look? Or feeling down to earth and close to nature? How about the natural earth look?

Go ahead and treat your make-up like art, create your best looks and flaunt it in crowds!

Switchfoot LIVE - Singapore 2011

It's been quite awhile since the last post! But we have loads of new posts coming up from the weekend!

Fellow blogger Kiki & I had the chance to see Switchfoot in concert in Singapore last Thursday (28th April 2011)! It was held at the Rock Auditorium in Suntec City at 7:30 PM. Calling of Levi (band from Aussie!) and The Great Spy Experiment (local) opened for the night and they were pretty good!

When Switchfoot finally took the stage, everyone got on their feet, sang their hearts out, and danced the night away. The band sounded even better live; the musicians were fantastic and Jon Foreman's voice and stage personality really added to the authentic feel of the night.

We expected them to perform their latest material with a few previews of their unreleased tracks from their upcoming album and maybe - if we were lucky - a couple of old favourites. BUT we were wrong!

They played their greatest hits; including Meant To Live, Dare You To Move, Only Hope, Gone, We Are One Tonight (from the Narnia movie) and much more!

My favourite performance of the night was Awakening - it was electrifying!

Jon Foreman even went to the crowd twice during the show; I think he must have been carried by a bouncer - it's either that or he was standing on one of the seats.

When the concert ended, the mood of the place dropped drastically. Even after the 3-song encore, everybody wanted more.

I definitely recommend anyone who has the chance to see them...to see them! They have a lot more tour dates coming up so see them if they come to your city!

This concert is one of my favourites; I'd easily give it a 10/10. Points for quality of music, quality of sound, quality of singer, personality of band, authenticity of the night and the adoration of the crowd!

I GOT MY PARCELS TODAY!

After three days(DHL is really quite quick), my McQueen bangles travelled all the way from London to Sunny Singapore! I missed the first delivery, but I called up, and they came again on the same day!

I came home quite excitedly and saw the brown package on my dining table. I rushed to open it! Net a porter always has such beautiful packaging.

I'm so happy that I finally bought them. I love them to bits and can see myself wearing them for a long time to come.

Check back to my old post to see where you can buy your own McQueen bangles.

I highly recommend Net-a-porter. They are quick to ship, easy to deal with, and their website is a dream to browse.

B is for Bright and Balenciaga

One of the bags i have regretting selling is my Balenciaga S/S 2010 Sobert city with regular hardware(RH)

(here is the beauty in question)

I felt then that it was too bright and not the right pink. Fast forward a year, i have regretted this decision. I feel that every girl should have a bright coloured bag. It makes the most dull outfit instantly have life. Also an easy way to spice up an outfit!

For me, Balenciaga is my go to brand when I need to inject some colour to my bag collection. They make the most amazing, softest bags ever with the most outrageous colors every season.

Take Heidi Montag for instance

Nicky Hilton

You can wear a neutral outfit and let your bag do the talking.

Here are 2 of my favorite brightly colored bags.

2008 S/S Amethyst Giant Gold Hardware(GGH)

I waited for this bag for 2 years! I wanted it so much but its one of the most popular colors, and very difficult to find. My fairy bag mother however was kind and I finally found it! ( Though, i paid way over retail for it)

2010 S/S Limited Edition Lime Green GGH

I had to be on a wait list for this baby. One of my brightest bags ever. Looking at it makes me happy. Its so bright!

So don't be afraid of a little color in your everyday outfit.

Perfect Collaborations

On April 18,2011, Mike Shinoda from Linkin Park announced through their official website www.linkinpark.com, that their new single 'Iridescent' is being featured as the title end number in the upcoming Michael Bay movie, Transformers: Dark of the Moon. This third installment of the blockbuster will be opening on July 1,2011.
It can arguably be one of the most successful collaborations between music and movie, previously Linkin Park had provided music for the Transformers films , 'What I've Done' from the first film, which became an instant hit selling over 3 million downloads in the US, 'New Divide' from 2009 Transformer’s: Revenge of the Fallen crossed the 2 million mark. Both songs were top selling songs for the band .
It has also been revealed that Linkin Park's secret weapon Turntablist Mr Hann aka Joe Hann will be directing the video for 'Iridescent'. Hann also directed the video for 'New Divide'which received over 78 million views. One can only expect big things from him.
Steve Jablonsky mentioned in a recent interview on LPTV " Michael and I responded to Linkin Park because they have a cinematic sensibility to their music that translates to big screen."
I couldn't agree more, along with their growing fans worldwide.
Linkin Park has come a long way and over the years creating a more mature sound which is evidently clear in their new single 'Iridescent', also becoming a fan-favourite at their live concerts as Mike shinoda has mentioned.
Transformer’s composer Steve Jablonsky with Linkin Park talk about their collaboration.

This coming September the band will be touring Japan and Southeast Asia, with a stop on the main stage of the 2011 Singtel Singapore Grand Prix on September 25. For more tour information please visitwww.linkinpark.com.

Till next time

Part I: Forget Beach Babe, Be A Beach Goddess

It's sunny (sometimes too sunny), things are getting hot n' heavy but your make up is melting, your hair is frizzy and you feel everything but sexy. We've all had a similar experience so make sure the next time you pay a visit to the beach you take these beauty tips with you!

- Make sure you apply the appropriate moisturizer, lip balm and SPF before putting any make up on; the 60 year old you will thank you for it one day, I promise.

- Make up professional Jemma Kidd believes in the 'bare as you dare' principle; why not try and stick with sheer tinted moisturizer instead of foundation for a more natural glow?

- waterproof, waterproof, waterproof!

- It is best to use neutral but shimmery eye shadows just applied lightly on the eyelids. Try and stay away from black eye-liners; going to the beach is the perfect time for coloured eye-liners like this or this! I love using gold eyeshadow, it looks amazing on tanned skin especially if you're a dark olive skinned girl like me!

- Bronzers are my go-to cheek colour because of the sun-kissed glow they leave on you, but honestly, if you tan well (not burn too fast) you could give the bronzer a day off.

- For girls who burn easily, you don't have to hide under tree shadows; just make sure to bring your stunning shades and cute cover-ups!

- For lips, go with colour that will complement your tanned/blushing skin and make sure it's light and fresh-looking.

This is the first post in the "Forget Beach Babe, Be A Beach Goddess" series. Next time, we're going to take a look at how to maintain frizzy hair, keep your hair moisturized & cute hairstyles for the beach!

Till then,
Sasha <3
